Introducing the new FGC-P Fiber Coating Geometry System

The FGC-P is a compact, trustworthy solution for measuring the geometry characteristics of optical fiber coating, of fibers with a coating diameter from 100µm to 260µm. It is ideal for rapid, accurate measurements of optical fibers in a manufacturing or R&D setting.

User friendly and fully automated, this system provides a fast, direct measurement of fiber coating parameters including coating diameter, coating non-circularity and coating-cladding concentricity in standard telecom as well as specialty fibers such as Polarization Maintaining (PM) fibers.

Developed as a result of customer feed-back, our novel liquid cell can handle thin fibers with dimensions down to 60 µm cladding /100 µm coating, and layer thicknesses of down to 10 µm. Standard cells are available for fibers with nominal coating thicknesses of 245, 200 and 100 µm coating diameter.  On request the cell can be modified to accommodate non-standard coating diameters. The  fiber can be rotated into up to 36 different positions to enable accurate measurement of coating concentricity and non-circularity.

The FGC-P measures dual-layer coating – useful for many standard and specialty fibers and is standards compliant, using the side-view reference test method described in IEC-60793-1-21.
